My Story
The author is married with two adult children and, along with his wife, is a 30-plus-year veteran of the hospitality industry.
Born in ’69, he grew up in Durban and Amanzimtoti on the east coast of South Africa and headed to the UK in 1992 to be young and carefree and seek his fortune. Within three months, he had met his wife to be, a Portuguese woman born in Angola, Africa. She is an accomplished chef whose memories and scars from witnessing, as a child, the brutality of the early months of the civil war in Angola in the mid 70’s will make your hair stand on end.
Trained by Bass Plc in the art of running pubs, Neale's hospitality career has spanned running pubs, area and operational management in the UK, restaurants and nightclub ownership in South Africa and back in the UK again, ownership and hands on running of pubs.
They currently live in Staffordshire, in the Midlands of the UK, in a former pub, fittingly, which he has converted into a house.
When they’re not working, they like to travel, road tripping especially, and their adventure in 2024 took them from the UK, in their expedition fitted 4x4, to the end of Armenia, zig-zagging across twenty-five countries over a period of seven months.
The eternal draw of hospitality now sees him - at the time of writing this - running the Plough Inn, a pub in Uttoxeter, East Staffordshire, a free-of-tie lease which he has owned as a second business for a little over seven years.
